We love Notes, but …

There is that application, where some (not all of them) users see, randomly, a error message stating
Entry not found in index
when creating new documents from another currently open document.

Not Fieldname: Entry not found in index,which would be a better message for finding this kind of error, but simply the message written above. So searching is a PITA for any developer out there.

So i have written down an idea over at ideajam …. Adding value to “entry not found in index” message.

So if you want to have a more effective error message, head over there an vote for this. Perhaps this will help in getting this on IBMs radar.

Leider deckt sich das Missverhältnis zwischen den Kontinenten das er sieht auch mit meinen bisherigen Beobachtungen. Es wäre wirklich schade sich diese Gelegenheit entgehen zu lassen.

Ja ich weis, die Diskussionsbeiträge sind in Englisch geschrieben.
Ja man tut sich schwer das zu lesen.
Und ja man tut sich noch schwerer eigene Ideen zu formulieren und die dann auch noch zu veröffentlichen.

Aber ihr könnt wenigstens euere Stimmen abgeben. Ihr müsst euch ja nicht alle, aktuell 781, Beiträge anschauen.

oder die
ersten vier Seiten mit den meisten Kommentaren

und wenn ihr wollt auch meine Vorschläge ….
Warum Sprache in der Werbung wichtig ist
Das das entwickeln von Mobilen Anwendungen einfach sein sollte
das man im Web auch gezielt auf bestimmte Portale setzen sollte um Werbung zu machen

Oder die die Thomas Bahn gemacht hat ….

Verpasst diese Chance nicht. BITTE.

Und wenn es nur deswegen ist, damit die Amis nicht vergessen, das der deutschsprachige Raum einen nicht unerheblichen Anteil am Erfolg von Lotus Domino/Notes hatte und hat.

Over at OpenNTF, the part of the community where you should start looking if you want to see some really cool apps there is a new project available which is call “Task Management”. You can find it here.

And believe me the guys who build this did a really good job in putting something together that seems to be tiny and small but could have an impact on how you do your work especially when your are looking at the GTD method.

I am the “let us see what will really happen” type. I do not think that Social Computing will in the long run win over face to face communication. Perhaps i do so because i am too old and unflexible to jump at any new theme that is coming down the river. Plus there are too much studies that tell us that people do need personal interaction to develop and live a healthy live.

But Luis has made his point about something that IBM has said two months ago here.

Well i have made a calendar entry for me to do a reality check again in july 2011. We will see if the predicatement he and IBM have made is fullfilled until then.

As i wrote in my last entry here in this blog IBM had some issues with NotesViewNavigators and NotesViewEntries under some circumstances. Well they fixed this. Right now, well this is originally from two weeks ago, but we had to test it too and we had other issues that resulted in writing this a little bit later, there is a hotfix, number 85HF586_W3 available from IBM that fixes the problems arising with NotesViewNavigators and NotesViewEntries.

If you are updating to 8.5 take a close look at all of your applications. Especially when they are using Notes View Navigators and Notes View entries in a rather simple construction to do some work for you.

over here but pretty impressive too.

We took one of our main mail and application cluster servers offline because we replaced the hardware and i got the chance to play around a little bit with DAOSEST 1.1.
This is a server that has truly grown through all the years. With the data stored on multiple linked devices, it was the one where i truly was not shure if this great piece of software would run.

Here are the results after running roundabout 40 hours.

Total DB’s analyzed: 1187
Total DB’s skipped due to errors: 13
Total Size of NSF’s Examined: 916.1 GB
Total Attachments found: 2243058
Total Duplicate Attachments found: 1298800
Total DAOS Eligible Attachments: 2243058
Estimated Size of DAOSified NSF’s: 250.5 GB
Estimate Size of DAOS dir: 261.7 GB
Total Disk Savings: 439.8 GB

Wow.

And yes i believe that people are living in their mail system by looking at those numbers. And it seems that giving them access to a decent file system solution, using teamrooms and quickr does not help stopping them from still storing everything in their email application.

Richtext und Tabellen, besonders Richtext Felder die Tabellen enthalten und innerhalb von Tabellen (ganz gleich welcher Art) dargestellt werden, waren schon immer ein wenig spröde zu handhaben.

Bis einschließlich Version 7 gab es eigentlich nur zwei Möglichkeiten wenn man Ärger mit dem linken Rand von Richtext Feldern vermeiden wollte. Entweder packte man das Richtext Feld in eine Tabelle, die Tabelle in eine Teilmaske und fügte diese Teilmaske dann in die entsprechende Tabelle einer Maske ein. Wobei man diese Teilmaske mit der integrierten Tabellen und dem eingebundenen Richtextfeld IMMER und ÜBERALL benutzen musste. Oder man baute das Richtext Feld außerhalb jeder Tabelle in die Maske ein, was manchmal zu ziemlich “bescheuerten” Benutzerinterfaces führte.

Es hat zwar ein wenig gedauert, aber IBM hat es geschafft.
