We love Notes, but …

Provokante Frage. Oder? Allerdings hat mich ein Artikel im Spiegel Online, der von Martin Wehrle geschrieben wurde dazu gebracht über diese Frage nachzudenken. Er beschreibt darin zunächst ein Experiment mit Affen und schwenkt von da zu den Beförderungskriterien in deutschen Firmen. Hier gibt er die, wohl von vielen wahrgenommene (zumindest lassen die Kommentare darauf schließen), Lebenswirklichkeit wieder, wie sie vermutlich schon einige an ihrem Arbeitsplatz gesehen haben. IBM reinstated the foundation server software. When i read this first here and then here it surprised me.
Why? Because following the discussion around this product closely for the last two years my opinion was fix around January this year. IBM was going to kill this little pet and the only thing you might be able to do is say “they must know what they are doing”. So the whole foundation thing fell of from my table.
Well it seems that someone over at IBM seems to think that they can still make money with that. Reading that document today got me searching. I wondered if i had missed the deep impact that this should have made in the yellowverse and i tried to find others who talked about this either briefly or more lengthy. Guess what? The only one who was speaking about it was Stuart Mc Intyre and the reactions to his post were so that i think that IBM lost the aficionados for foundations completely.

There is a song line that goes “in the end it’s just a matter of trust”. I think IBM lost that here.

First lesson: If you burn the brigdes behind you, no one will follow you, even i you build new ones.
Second lesson: If you are on a zig-zac-course, no one will take you serious.

The difference in handling is that if you use ESC the document is saved and closed. And if you use Cntrl-s the document is just saved and you can work on the document furthermore
But what if you need to make a programmatic difference between using Cntrl-s and ESC? What would be nice is if you would have a method to set some code on top of the “do you want to save your document” question that appears when you use ESC. The Notes events seem to be useless here because both buttons are behaving the same way.

Anyone out there that could perhaps put me on the track?

Zwei Beiträge. Einer von Stefan Pfeiffer bei der Euluc über “shareaholics”. und einer auf Spiegel Online über die verschiedenen Typen von Abiturienten. Verblüffend ist, welch unterschiedliche Sichtweisen zum Thema “teilen von Erfahrungen und Wissen” hier sichtbar werden.

Wo Herr Pfeiffer von, Zitat (muss ja sein, sonst geht es mir wie Herrn Guttenberg): “(Nicht nur) nach meiner Beobachtung sehen wir einen Paradigmenwechsel im Verhalten vieler insbesondere junger Leute. Überall am sharen, am zwitschern, bloggen und netzwerken.”, einer Generation die Teilen will, der Teilen ein ganz natürliches Bedürfnis ist, spricht, hat Herr Noack, der aus genau dieser angesprochenen Generation kommt, da wohl etwas differenziertere Erfahrungen gemacht. Zitat: “Wir kämpfen alle für das Abitur und gegen diese ganzen fiesen Prüfer. Aber verständlicherweise will dabei jeder der beste Kämpfer sein. In der Schule klärt man so etwas mit kleinen Intrigen. Wenn Abiturient drei sagt: “Natürlich kannst du meinen Hefter kopieren”, dann denkt er: “Hihi, aber die wichtigen Blätter nehme ich vorher raus.”

Wessen Sichtweise der Dinge die “bessere” ist, kann ja jeder für sich selber entscheiden. Lesenswert ist jeder der beiden Artikel.

Did you ever use @Prompt in the formula language? Of course you did. Everybody I know did it.

Did you also use NotesUIWorkspace.Prompt? Well some of you might have done that. It was implemented with version 5 and got us “LotusScripters” a method to do the same in script we could do in formula, because Evaluate and @Prompt did not play nicely together.

Well kind of. Last week i stumbled over a little thing that made me think at first that i am the one who is crazy.

Due to an error in an application i had to check the FolderReferences property in a domino application. The first look went to the properties box of the mail file. And there it was. A little Sign saying.

“Folder Reference attributes are enabled”

I thought Pffew and got ready to tell the customer that everything is alright. Then my brother, who is also working on the project, reminded me that the customers users were always working from a local replica of the application. I tried and built a local replica on our testing systems and guess what i found

Porsche verbietet seinen Mitarbeitern nicht nur die Facebook Nutzung sondern ganz allgemein:
“die Nutzung sozialer Netzwerke, Webdienste und private E- Mailprogramme wie Google-Mail ist tabu”.

Ebay auch.

Gut, bei der Nutzung von Ebay stellt sich die Frage, was haben die Mitarbeiter von Porsche denn so alles bei EBay verkauft?

Did you ever try to use color gradients as a background for your notes tables? You know that you can do this don’t you?
